The presentation is like art
Notting Hill is a very successful movie with leading roles played by Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. During that period, Notting Hill was a quiet and insignificant town. The fame of the movie can also be seen in the town. Many celebrities bought houses from here. The streets are renewed throughout. Londoners belittle this new town as it’s seen as the neighbourhood of the rich. A quiet and laidback place, TheLedbury welcomes you with their artsy presentations in this popular town Notting Hill.
Two old English ladies
At lunch, two old English ladies sitting next to my table catch my eyes. They don’t look very fancy, yet these two friends have met at a 2 Michelin starred restaurant for a lunch despite their old age. Believe me, it’s such a beautiful thing to see. These ladies young at heart are having botox done to their soul with the fabulous food here. They chat and eat like two young ladies. In my country, we think that people of old age have no souls left in them. On the other hand, these ages are the most precious ages in Europe.
A diverse and characteristic Kitchen
Our first warm starter is stuffed meatballs (kubbeh) with venison. I called this stuffed meatball as it’s a special prepared with bulghur just as in Turkish cuisine, and the outer layer is hard and the inner side is stuffed with minced meat of deer. They don’t add walnuts or parsley to the filling. Like this, I can’t say it’s tastier than stuffed meatballs.
Next, duck liver with artichoke is served as pureed liver on my plate. The taste is wonderful. Another special is frozen foiegras on roasted potato. The green colour you see comes from wasabi. But don’t worry, it’s not spicy. I think it goes well with duck meat.
After, onion dish presented with summer truffle and earl grey tea hits the top with the success of its truffle sauce.
One of the best things here is that their butter accompanying their bread tasting is not made of normal butter, but from the fat of goat milk. They create an amazing taste by pouring caramelised sugar over the top. However, their bread is not on the same level as their butter. It’s warm, yet unfortunately too hard. The Ledbury serves you the best vegetables with the right sauces. They do it with such a good presentation that; you find yourself staring at table and feeling amazed.
Main Dishes and Desserts as the Highlights
My main dish, lamb neck as is astonishing. Its soft and fatty meat enchants you. Having this beautiful meat in Europe makes me feel very lucky. The yogurt pate served with the dish isall right; yet white-orange carrots next to it are not very interesting. The side dishes are bit weak beside meat.
Cooked pears with chestnut ice cream and caramelised ginger cake have everything I’m looking for. It’s light, and not very sweet; but most of all, it’s a unique taste I’ve never had anywhere else. The chestnut ice cream is light, yet another ice cream I try later, celery ice cream puts me under a spell. The photographs of these master pieces should be presented in museums in London…
